How it all started..
The Beginning
It all started four decades back when Mr. Srinivasan, coming from a very humble background, sold his mother’s earrings to meet family expenses. The immediate need had been met but he had his eyes on the future and worked hard for it. His determination gradually brought better days and Mr. Srinivasan got a bigger pair of gold earrings made for his mother. And guess what? He had designed the earrings himself. It was not just a gift for his mother. It was a part of himself, made with immense love and the sweat of his brow.
Like they say, something good comes out of every crisis. An idea dawned on Mr. Srinivasan. He was inspired by his undying love for the art of jewellery making and contemplated the possibility of adopting it as a business. Although he couldn’t afford to invest heavily, his determination kept his dream alive.
Stepping Stones
Penny by penny, he would save money from his day job. Whenever he could find some time, he let his imagination soar and sketched out jewellery designs. He worked closely with the goldsmiths and got these designs made with the best finesse possible. This firsthand experience helps Mr. Srinivasan even to this day, in guiding goldsmiths to execute intricate and difficult designs. He also calculated a correct combination of alloys so that the purity of jewellery was never compromised. And this was long before the advent of gold assaying and hallmarking!
The Breakthrough
Finally the first few jewellery designs reached their tangible form. With a heart full of trepidation, Mr. Srinivasan took them to a couple of jewellery stores hoping that he could sell at least a few. To his great surprise, the shopkeeper was so impressed with the design and workmanship that he purchased all of them! The shopkeeper even offered Mr. Srinivasan a deal for regular supply of jewellery designs.
Encouraged by the positive response, Mr. Srinivasan slowly started supplying jewellery to a few more retailers. As time passed, word spread about his unique designs and superior finishing. The retailers held him in high regard. Orders started pouring in from other cities too. Mr. Srinivasan’s clientele extended to the cities of Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.
For the love of Art
Supplying to more number of outlets in a single city would have made better business sense, but to give his clientele (retailers) the advantage of having unique jewellery, Mr. Srinivasan supplied to an extremely limited number of stores in any city. The volume of business was never a priority for Mr. Srinivasan, he just wanted to design the best jewellery and make some money out of this passion.
Broadening horizon
As days passed, a lot of friends and family members requested Mr. Srinivasan to design jewellery for their requirements. Most of them never looked for another jeweller again. Many jewellers themselves approached him to design jewellery for their families. It was enough encouragement for him to start his own venture.
The journey continues…
And when Mr. Srinivasan opened his own jewellery boutique, it was rightly named Art of Gold, bearing testimony to the artistic passion, experience and knowledge gained from 40 years of crafting exquisite jewellery. On 25th July, 2009, Art of Gold opened its doors to the celebration of pure and unique jewellery.
With the establishment of his boutique, Mr.Srinivasan’s dream has taken off in full swing. The quaint boutique finds pride of place at R.S. Puram, the heart of Coimbatore. The boutique specializes in all the aspects of a jewellery business, right from designing jewellery to handcrafting the final products, and also consulting customers for their customised orders. With a legacy of four decades behind its name, Art of Gold is dedicated to provide the best in jewellery and gold buying options to each and every customer. So much thought and passion is put in making each piece that it radiates a timeless elegance.
Following the footsteps of his heart, Mr. Srinivasan has come a long way. He is joined by his son Satakopan to take the store to even more customers and creating new contemporary designs. And the entire team of Art of Gold is constantly learning and improving, encouraged and inspired by trusted customers and patrons like you.
